  1. Hello All,

    Learnt a BIG lesson and some hefty cost.

    I shot one video during my Ice Hotel trip which is FULL OF WIND. I used in-built mic of the camcorder with wind noise control function 'on' but it didn't help much. Now I need to get rid of this wind noise.
    The worst part is, I have my own narration during shooting as well which I desperately need.

    I don't have any professional audio editing programs so to begin with, I exported wave file from Premiere pro 2.0 and imported same to audacity and tried its noise removal feature. I guess I wasn't too right there and it didn't work at all (!!)

    Does anybody has another suggestion? Is there any program that has this wind noise removal function that I can use in its demo version?

    Thanks a ton in advance.

    Coming at things from another angle, why not just take a note of what you said in the "too much wind noise" recording and then re-record the narration. If you're worried about timing, have the original playback through headphones and use that as a prompt to record the same narration but in much better conditions.

    Quite often, the pro's will record a video shot and then do the audio in the studio.

    @daamon,
    I did think of your option as well but its quite a lot and since this is just a vacation video, I don't really want to spend (or have enough) time over it.

    I checked out both samples. I'm no audio expert, but I'd say that the wind is the dominant sound, along with other close-up and clear background noises (something rustling) and it would be a big ask to reduce, let alone remove.

    I'd be willing to put money on it taking you longer to remove or reduce the unwanted wind than it would to re-record a clear commentary with no background noises. On top of that, even if you do reduce the wind noise, I doubt if the commentary would be as clear as if you were to re-do it in quiet conditions.

    Bandpass filter.
    Maybe band limited Noise Gating/Compression (like DeEsser).

    Naahh, Re-record it!

    Add a new commentary - a "voiceover" on a new track.

    Just mix the two together - your voiceover louder and the wind sound in the background.

    Here's an example - your Wind Wave file mixed with a voice.
