I am reasonably fluent in Liquid Edition 6, but soon I will be required to use the software to extract footage from some random DVD movies, edit these chunks in Liquid and then save to new DVD for the purposes of creating a 'showreel'.

There will be several different source movies, ranging from a brief 5 minutes to feature length. I am assuming I can gain access to the footage I want from each of them by 'importing' clips?

Please advise the best process to achieve my goal - should I use different software to convert the DVD films to AVI files on my computer, then attempt to import the whole files into Liquid and cut out the bits I want? Surely there are limits on file sizes of imports? Should I think about ''chopping up' my converted AVI file (which software is best for this?) and only importing into Liquid the small chunks I want to play with? Is AVI even the best format to go to ensure no quality loss?

Your help and assistance much appreciated as usual.

Hi - I sure could use an answer on this.

Could someone recommend a program to rip from a DVD, convert it to AVI and then allow me to cut chunks from it to import into Liquid Edition?

    Cheers!

If you mean one program to do all this, I doubt such exist.
Rip the dvd - DVD Decrypter
Cut the pieces and convert to avi - VDubMod (or VDub-Mpeg2) with Lagarith loseless codec (IMO best for editing)

Thanks - I'll use these programs and revert if I need a little help with navigating them and optimum settings.
