Most movies, when you strip out all the extra garbage (my opinion) can easily be reduced to fit onto a DVD-5.

@pchan DL might be cheap where you live but in the UK they are still expensive. Verbatim + DL in packs of 20 are £30/$57/44 Euro or I can buy 25 Verbatim (TY) DVD-R for £5, i'll stick with single layer

And not all set-top DVD players will play burnt DL DVDs....

Cheap is a relative term. DL media is STILL over $1.30 a disc depending on the brand. Unless you find a sale, Verbatim tends to be roughly $1.50 to $1.80 a disc. Brands I wouldn't trust, such as RiData, tend to be around $1.30 a disc. I just bought some Taiyo Yuden DVD+R discs at 36 cents a piece. Their DVD-Rs are even cheaper, but I like the +R discs. So I could buy at least 4 Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs discs for roughly what 1 DVD+R DL disc costs.

Don't know about cheap DL, but yes I just go straight to burn DL with IMGBurn to iso ..
And if i can reduce the size w/o compression to DVD-5 then I do straight burn as well... 8)
BTW, I use Verbatim DL media....
