  1. I been looking through all the how tos, and there are so many.

    I just bought a new burner, its dvd-r/rw both +/-. The software that came with it is nero essentials, i think version 7.

    I burnt goodfellas, and it worked fine, but it took 2 hours to burn. With nero, it watches the movie as its burning it as a fast forward speed. But it takes so long, is it normal? I heard you can burn a dvd in like 20 minutes,, what am i doing wrong?

    now some of the movies i have on my computer are .avi, some are .cues, and one is mpeg. I learned how to convert them, but what format is best for dvd burning?

    And my last question is why a movie only 1gb in size took up 4.3 on my blank dvd. I have the full seasons of sopranos, and each show is only 330mb roughly, but is each one going to need a whole disk?

    my computer specs;

    p4 2.8ghz
    1.25 gb ram pc 3200
    2x 80gb harddrives with half or more than have space left on each
    dvd buner 16x dvd r/rw +/- all 4 formats

    Thanks to who ever can help me. I am new to this.

    If you are just burning, then it should take 15 minutes or less. However you seem to be using either Recode or NeroVision to recompress or re-encode the video, which is where the time is going.

  4. And also, it seems your sources are AVI, and not DVD, so they have to be converted to DVD files. You're not just burning, but also reencoding or transcoding (as guns1inger said) to create the DVDs before burning them. I don't use Nero products for this sort of thing, so someone else will have to help if you insist on continuing to use them. But, the final size is a function of the bitrate used. You can make them as large or as small as you like. A general rule of thumb when converting AVI to DVD is 3-4 times the size of the source AVI.

    Goodfellas is an almost 2.5 hour movie whereas The Sopranos episodes are - what - 45-50 minutes, so they shouldn't require anywhere near the same size. Maybe they should take up 1 GB or so when done, depending on the output quality.

    I think it's usually recommended around here to use ConvertXToDVD for what you want. There's an earlier free version at the link.
