    Have you tried other programs for burning DVDs other than Nero 7? What brand DVDs? DVD media quality is by far the biggest cause of burning and playback problems.

    When you say you are burning a movie between 600MB - 1.5MB, I'm wondering if you mean you are converting a video file of that size from a AVI format to MPEG-2 for a DVD? A 700MB Xvid, for example, will be at least 1.5GB or larger when converted to MPEG-2, DVD format.

    If it's already DVD compliant format, Nero is notorious for re-encoding about anything you put into it. Info on the DVD format and specification is here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvd

    Professional DVD menus usually require professional software, or a lot of work and study. The 'semi-pro' way is to use programs like Photoshop to generate your graphics, then a authoring program like DVD Lab Pro to do your menus, etc.

    Not many of use can afford professional programs just for a hobby. But with some study and some learning, you can do very well even with freeware authoring programs like DVD AuthorGui or GUI for dvdauthor. But if you have the cash for DVD Lab Pro, it's well worth it.

    And welcome to our forums.

    yea i've tried the pre installed dvd burning software aswell as nero burner 7, and i get the same message. the brand of DVD im using is TDK DVD recordable/ DVD inscriptible (1-8 x) 4.7GB disks.

    im in no way converting anything. to put it simple i just add the file type whether it be mpeg or avi, then pretty much select one of those pre installed menu templates then click on burn.

  4. Nero is converting without you to know.

    Make sure Nero is burning as a Data disk, not as a DVD
    <edit>
    I see from your question about menus, that you're probably trying to make movies from your AVI's, and not just wishing to backup your data on DVD
