Yep... it only took me 12 minutes to rip with DVDFab Decrypter v3.0.7.0, then i opened it in shrink, set it, and it compressed and burned... i had to sit there for 12 minutes before opening it in burn & in less than 45 minutes :P but i did not have to shell out any $$ for AnyDVD or CloneDVD2 to do it either 8)
All free software.. and not even the latest version's 8)

Backing it up is the easy bit. Getting rid of all the crap at the start is the hard part. It doesn't help that Casino Royale appears to have several alternate main menu screens and that's just for English speakers! I'm working on the R3 version at present.

I also like to back up my movies, but when I have a problem and spend more than 1 hour trying to copy and read on this forum all the possibilities to rip my movie, I don't think that's worth my time.
At that point, I take my DVD player, my DVD recorder and add the GoDVD "SIMA" in between. I make a decent copy of the movie, and then download the movie only on my PC. I know the copy will work every time.

Your computer says there's no disc when you try to rip the original to hard drive or your computer says there's no disc when you try to play a burnt copy?

What is the make and model of the DVD drive from which you are trying to rip the disc?

Advanced SCSI Programming Interface, a method that some programs use to access data on drives. Although designed for SCSI drives, it is actually required for non-SCSI devices too, so Force ASPI is sometimes required. Useful for accurate DVD and CD ripping.

Spending hours making a back up copy of the movie you just bought can be fun or a real nightmare.
If you like the challenge great, but if you just like the practicality, get a stand alone DVD recorder and a GoDVD Sima :

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000AEFVVE/ref=pd_bbs_olp_1/102-0549655-1094554...7040314&sr=8-1

It works every time. Now, the quality is not as good as a copy on the PC, and you don't get the extras from the DVD, but it is an alternative for just getting the movie.

Are you able to play the disc normally in your PC, not to copy, just to watch?

If you cannot even play the movie you most certainly cannot copy it. I suspect the drive unit in your PC has some kind of anti ripping firmware installed? You may have to flash the firmware with a new version or replace the drive unit entirely.

First you need to identify the make and model of the DVD drive (not the PC). Then find a website which hosts third-party firmware for it. (The original manufacturer is unlikely to help with this in any way). There is a risk that flashing the firmware will make the DVD drive unusable and also no guarantee that it will help with your problem. It could be that certain titles (Sony?) are just not playable on your particular drive unit.

Not likely. if it did it would have to be somthing like sony did. (add a virus) lol. but either way it should still be able to play. it could be as simple as a dirty disk in perticular the lead in track. check the inner rings of hte dvd closely and clean if needed. does it work in your stand alone dvd player? try to boot in safe mode? i think your dvd should still read in safe mode just wont rip burn. see if it will read the dvd then.

P.S. you can get a liteon or other good internal for 30USD these days that will not have any form of "lock" on it. just add that to your computer.

For the record. i have made a copy of my DVD first try no problem. i have not had a problem with any DVD so far. i have a liteon 1633s flashed to a 1653s. the flash had nothing to do with its ability to rip it just gave me beter speeds for DL and -R recordings.

You might still have to flash the firmware before you can copy a commercial title.

YES!!!! Finally! I used Mac The Ripper and selected "Full Disk Extraction", then imported results into DVD2oneX2. Once you've imported into DVD2oneX2, click on the "Cells" link and you can select which cells you want to use for the final cut. All of the bad cells have "0" MB of space. The actual movie doesn't begin until a chapter in the mid 20's. So, you just check all of the cells that have other than "0" size and click the record button for the final cut.

Then, I imported the DVD2oneX2 version into Handbrake to convert into MP4 and it worked beautifully! Time consuming?? Yes. But considering the countless hours I've expended trying to import Casino Royale (WHICH I OWN!!) into my hard drive so that I could use it with Apple TV, it was worth it.

The missing link was to use DVD2oneX2 to remove the zero cells. To buy it, it was $54 US, but well worth it!

    Hi guys
I realise that the Casino Royale debate has been raging for a while but I keep seeing that people say that RipIt4Me is the solution. However, it doesn't seem to be for me!
I've got RipIt4Me version 1.7.1.0 and I've got DVDDecrypter version 3.5.4.0. When I tried to back up my copy of Casino Royale, I opened RipIt4Me, put the movie in my drive and click One Copy, then I get the error message "failed to set data for 'DVD Decrypter Play DVD Movie On Arrival" and the option to click 'OK'. I do this and it all seems to set about ripping using DVD Decrypter and I even once got a message saying Rip completed successfully, but then it said something about VOB files being dirty and that I should take the disc out and clean it. When I did this the programme froze. I just can't seem to get RipIt4Me to copy this disc and it's really annoying me as others seem to have no problems!

My computer runs on Vista which I notice some say can cause issues but surely that can't be it and others have got around that by now?!

    Any help greatly appreciated!!

Hi - thanks for the reply... but I've tried DVDFabDecrypter and it spent a fair old time ripping the file but then gave a reading error when it looked like it was nearly finished....?

RipIt4Me is awesome! It backed up Casino Royale without a hitch!

It used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink in the process, but RipIt4Me did all the work and made it really easy.

This is a really super program, and by the way, ran fine on my Win7 machine.
