Each time I launch FFmpegX, it prompts me for the location of two files, "mencoder" and "mplayer."

I have these files under /opt/local/bin as I got them from DarwinPorts, and FFmpegX works perfectly once I point it to their location, but it forgets where they are each time I quit and relaunch.

Am I doing something wrong here, or should I not have used DarwinPorts for the mencoder/mplayer files, or...?

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

ffmpegX checks on launch if the binaries are present and of the right version. Your version of the binaries is possibly different from what's expected and it doesn't pass this test. That's why it keeps asking.
Do you have any special reason to use other binaries than the ones suggested by the author?

No particular reason, I had downloaded mplayer via DarwinPorts before I started using FFmpegX. When I downloaded and installed FFmpegX, I did so with the intention of experimenting with it later, and remembered only that there were "certain plugins required." Didn't recall exactly what they were, but I figured I'd have to go and download them.

When "later" came around and I decided to play with FFmpegX, I discovered that I already had the plugins in question--got them way back when, from DarwinPorts.

Anyway, you're saying I should try the devs' recommended version then? Will do, here's hoping.

Thanks a ton, I do appreciate the help.

The ffmpegX installer copies them to a special ffmpegX folder in Application Support, so they won't conflict with the ones you already have.
