Has anyone used an adapter like this for a laptop? I only have mic input on my Toshiba Satellite. No line in. I've only had time to test a bit and there seems to be too much noise when recording via mic. I know that when I use a USB headset for listening on my PC I get no noise and when I hook earphones to the PC I get a bunch of noise and interference. I was wondering if this device might kill extra mechanical noise or interference.

I just bought one of those as well. No issues, Windows XP picks it up as a sound card. I have only used it for Headphone's no Noise with just listening...

  3. I hooked up the USB headest to my laptop and there is no noise. I guess it's just listening through normal earphones they get a lot of interference.

Unless I am missing something, there still is no 'line-in' on this adapter. There is a microphone input, but more than likely, that is mono... not stereo.

Edit: This would offer stereo recording:

  6. It turns out I was jumping the gun. It may just be the particular earphones I was using. They are Shure E2C IEM's so they are not crap. For some reason when I listen with them I hear noise. I used my USB headset and it's perfectly quiet. With my Sony ECM-MS908C mic hooked into a Sound Professionals preamp @ +50dB plugged into the mic port using my USB headset I was recording sounds from another room in the house and the only noise I heard was ambient sound. This is all I've had time to mess around with so far. Over the next couple weekends I'll be running sound for a local bluegrass act and will have the chance to record some live stuff.
