  1. it freezes after trying to multiplex the audio and video together, the programs stalls for like 2 minutes, gets half way done with multiplexing it, and it crashes. any other good multiplexers around?

also why does every avi i download, even the vite releases, not supported by tmpg?

TMPGenc is a great encoder but a lousy multiplexor. For mpeg1 I think its adequate but for mpeg2 its terrible.

Try using bbmpeg. For Svcd authoring its practically a must.

TMPGenc should be able to accept any divx encoded avi file as a video source. If it doesnt then try loading the avi file in virtual dub and telling it to save as old form avi.

The problem may also lie in the audio. TMPGenc does not handle compressed audio well (mp3) nor does it work well with ac3 files, if at all. Try loading the divx file in virtual dub. Try saving the audio as a wav (file/save wav.) Use this in TMPGenc for your audio. If the audio is an ac3 file then you can extract it using virtual dub and convert it to wav with something like azid.

The problem may be something else entirely but there is no way to know without more information. Does TMPGenc give an error? freeze up?

  3. One thing ive found handy when ive had problems with downloaded video is to uncompress the audio (i think)

I cant remember what package it is in, but it comes with another tool (i think its AVI2VCD).

You simply load your avi and then it saves it as avi_pcm.avi (so i think it decompresses the audio)

I have found that converting the uncompressed avi works alot better.

    Give it a whirl.

  4. thanks ill try uncompressing it
the only error that tmpg gives when opening the divx, is that it isnt supported. i have only gotten one to actually open up fine, but then when encoding it i got a bsod
i like using panasonic better, but ill uncompressing them with vdub
