I was thinking about buying an Nvidia GeForce 8800 video card for games, but then when I saw the price i really can't afford it. I do alot of video editing however and was wondering if a better card like this would also increase encoding speed? Right now I'm using an Nvidia GeForce 6600. I was always told its your processor speed that determines how fast you can encode, but this card seems to have lot of power, so I was just wondering if it would indeed speed things up?
If so then I will be a more worthy purchace!![]()
thanks

Video card speeds have nothing to do with what you want to do. The fastest card on the market won't make any difference.

If by editing you mean adding multiple overlays, transitions, filters etc. they have cards that will give you real time encoding/preview. Don't have one myself but I've been itching to get one for more than a year now. If you've done any heavy editing you'd be aware of the time factor when it comes to previewing.... Really not for consumers though and the prices are quite high.
