A friend of mine gave me an old "Celeron D" non-working PC (fried MB) . I plan on replacing the mATX MB, CPU, and Memory. I am not sure if I will use the Onboard Video or get a Graphics Card. The primary use will be video encoding using DVD-RB/CCE. Will using a dedicated Graphics card vs. onboard make a huge difference in performance for my purposes? I am not a gamer and do not plan on watching videos on the machine.
I would like it to be able to encode (3 pass) discs in about 4-5 hrs so I could batch encode at night and while at work. Any suggestions on what components to use, while keeping costs to a minimum.....say, $250 or less?

1GB DDR2 = $107.00 (with 2 slots left over for future upgrade.)
total cost is a little bit more than $250.00 but it would be a lot faster than a single core set up.
And if you want to spend for a dedicated graphic card, your system would encode a little bit more faster.
If you want to save some cash, then go for this DDR2

for $89.99. But personally, I'd preferred Cosair RAM. -

This mobo has built in video but if you want you could buy a cheap PCI-E video card.
A setup like this is a great economical deal. The AMD 64 Sempron can be overclocked with that BIOSTAR mobo and CORSAIR RAM. -
The shared ram will have little effect on encoding times, as long as the main app is not starved of ram. Not semporn too slow, pay a few little extra bucks and get a proper 64 bit, cheap now, because they are!

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
