  1. Hello I've been looking for a USB HDTV WITH component video input for a LONG LONG time and I cant even find one regardless of the price...

I dont really care about the HD'TV' all I want is to be able to connect/record from Component video source (YPbPr cable). I do not want to convert it to composite - I want it to be YPbPr component video connected to my computer...

Basically, I'm trying to record from PS2 or PS3 using component inputs (for better quality then composite) but I cant find an external - OR internal card for that matter - device that lets me connect them to my computer.

Any help will be appreciated! thanks!

(also if you know of any better way of connecting videogames to the computer please tell me... I'm using a videocard with composite input right now and the quality is horrible... I think PS2 progressive scan only works if I use component - is there any other way to use it?)

Even a internal video card with component inputs is fairly rare. I've only seen a few and they were professional grade in the many hundreds of $$. But take a look at this site, they list a few external boxes with component inputs: http://www.videoguys.com/vidcap.htm The first two are about the cheapest, but they output FireWire, not USB.

  3. Keep in mind that those external boxes capture in standard definition (SD). You won't be able to capture high definition (HD), what your PS3 is capable of outputting.

Capturing with component on these boxes will increase the color accuracy. I'm not sure which cards or boxes support progressive input (50/60 fps), but I know that the ADS Pyro AV Link does not support progressive input.

I'm not aware of any cards or boxes that are capable of capturing in HD resolutions through component in that don't cost a fortune.

For comparison, this is a capture from my Dreamcast (PAL) with a standard definition Canopus ADVC 110 through S-Video:

If this is the quality that you are after, a good quality capturing solution with S-Video will do.

I have an ADSTech PYRO A/V Link and it is very good at capturing 480i through firewire. My unit has an older firmware and because of this has some dropped frames capturing directly from VHS or noisy sources. But from clean component sources it is great.
