  1. For arguments sake we have a public domain DVD9 disc containing main movie 5.6 Gb, extra footage 1.5GB, some trailers .4Gb

I want to rip it and create a torrent file.

If I do a directory rip blank out trailers leave the rest
use RipIt4Me FixVTS VobBlanker DVD Decrypter DVD Shrink

If I create a torrent with Movie directory > VIDEO_TS > ifo bup & vob files then downloaders could just select the main movie vob & ifo plus the Video_TS I think then just create a movie only ISO But I heard it's not best to do that because if all do that and very few download the extras then the torrent would not show complete and cause problems.

I was thinking to first rip as above in Movie Directory and copy all the files except the main movie VOB and put them in an extras torrent file.

Then I would re-rip Main movie plus menu only and create the main movie torrent
The downloader could just create an ISO from those files and they would work and also save then downloading another 1.5 GB If they wanted to shrink to DVD5 they could do that.

Those who wanted the extras could download the extras torrent also then over write the other directory replacing all the files except the main movie vobs.

What would be the best program to repair the files if needed. Can this be done.

I hope I explained it enough.

    Thank you,

    Joey

Why not just create two different torrents - one has the movie only, the other has the extras.

Of course, even if the movie itself is in the public domain, the DVD is not. The extras, the menus design etc is all copyright. Do you have the permission of the owner to distribute all these parts ?

  3. I don't have any specific movie in mind just in general.

Yes I thought the best thing would be to make 2 torrents.

One has the full movie & menu with all other material removed or blanked out using RipIt4oMe main movie plus menu only. Say it was 5,6GB down loaders could burn as DVD9 or shrink to DVD5. This would confirm that all was ok and ISO could be created and burned.

How do I treat the extras torrent so the downloaded files can be added without problems for the down loader?

Do I do a full DVD RipIt4Me then Voblanker the trailers then I confirm that a working ISO can be created and burned.

Do I now just remove the main movie VOBs and torrent the rest of the files?

Then instruct the down loader just to add the main movie VOBs from the Main Movie Torrent?
Would there be a problem because the VOBs were processed as part of just the main movie & menu as in the main movie Torrent? Or would the down loader have to use some program to fix any problems?

They would be two separate ISOs, with two separate torrents. You can't just rebuild the content on the fly.

  5. The torrent files would not be in ISO form but in
    Directory>Video_TS>ifos, bufs & vobs

I would rip the full DVD in to directory >Video_TS>ifos, bufs & vobs
delete main movie VOB's then torrent the directory

I would then rip the DVD again and select main movie & menu
I would confirm (only) that shrink would read & create DVD9 ISO or Shrink to DVD5 ISO but
I would torrent Directory>Video_TS>ifos, bufs & vobs pre DVD Shrink

If main movie VOB's were not VTS_01_0x but VTS_0x_0x originally I would instruct down loader to rename them to original name and add to the down loaded directory from the extra torrents and copying or moving to a new directory
would there be some program that would fix the vobs if neccessary. then the person could make an ISO file to burn as a DVD9.

Then it would be up to down loader to decide.

I never tried this before but I guess in theory it should work.

    - What you can try is "Kill PGC Playback"with the extras on the disc with pgcedit. Then it will create a backup folder. Use VobBlanker to post-process what you did with pgcedit - to eliminate the extras.

    - Create a torrent for the post-processed movies/menu. And create a torrent for the pgcedit backup folder(extras).

    - To restore the extras on the movies/menu only dvd, you would import the pgcedit backup into the VIDEO_TS folder of the movies/menu. Then use pgcedit to restore backup. If you did the backup correctly it should restore everything into the dvd structure, including extras(vobs) with the correct navs, vts sectors, etc.

Well yes if it was copyrighted material AND I didn't have written permission to do so.
Nowhere did I say that. It might me my own DL creation. I have not mentioned any copyrighted material in any of my post. Maybe I am an amateur movie maker and I want to freely distribute my work or any other legitimate reason.

I am discussing a ripping procedure for DVD9 to DVD? using torrents[/quote]

If you do the steps above it should work. I just did a quick test on a dvd - separating the movie/menus from the extras to different folders...and it worked fine, restoring the full dvd. Joining with pgcedit literally takes only seconds.
