Just got a DS Lite for my daughter. She's playing some kind of Kirby game. Is there a way to turn off the power so when you turn it on, the game will be right back where you left it, even in mid-level? Every time we turn it off (like when dinner has arrived at the table ), the game completely resets when it's powered back on. My PSP can handle this kind of pausing.

    Thanks!

  2. Well, here's an idea!

As you may allready know, if you close the DS, it will go into *power saving mode.

*It turns of the power to the two screens and pauses the game.

However, if you connect the AC Adapter into the DS, it will auto-sense the power source, and won't interrupt the game.

So, if you want to, you can designate a place for the AC Adapter and DS to "Rest Together", leaving it ON but Closed, and she should be able to resume at any time.

Also, if you disconnect the AC Adapter while the unit is on, the DS will sense that it's been disconnected and switch to it's internal battery without messing up the game.

You can experiment and see what I mean.

    P.S.
    Kirby Rocks!

The only reason why i mentioned the stuff about the AC Adapter is for times when it needs to be closed and in power-saving Pause Mode for extended periods, like sleeping or being at school and what not.

Also, any time you have the AC Adapter plugged in, it will be doing one of the two things.
While The Unit is In Use or in Power Saving Mode, it will be charging the battery & Running on AC Power simotaniouslly.
While The Unit is off, it'll just be charging the battery.

Don't worry, it has built in circuitry than can sense when the battery is fully charged, and when it is, it'll stop charging the battery and just supply power to the DS.

With most DS games you can just close the DS and it goes into sleep mode. It can stay in sleep mode for a week or more without charging.

Sleep mode doesn't work if you are playing a Gameboy Advance game on the DS though sleep mode is only for DS games. Some GBA games have a sleep mode, but it varies from game to game.

Yes and a few DS games like the new castlevania have a deep sleep built into them where it creates a temp save point and you can actually shut the system off completely.

indeed, just hit pause and close the DS. I have left New Super Mario Bros. paused like this for several days with no problems at all.

With the way emulators have a "save state" function, it's ridiculous that consoles have not adopted the same techniques. I can literally save an emulator mid-punch in a game, save it, turn off the system, turn it back on in 6 months, and load the state, and be right back in the middle of that punch again.

    It's the ultimate save method.

indeed, emu's kick ass, but aren't very portable or kid friendly
plus, how do you emulate the touch screen on the DS?

The Wii's built legal emulators ( for NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, Turbographix16, NeoGeo coming soon too) called the Virtual Console has save state, but it only allows one at a time per game, so you can't piece together your perfect SMB3 run over the course of a year.
