I'm really confused. I just did a reinstall of Win 2K on my computer, and installed vsfilter.dll. I've also tried using the vobsub resync program. I'm using media player classic. When I have an avi with .srt subtitle file the subtitles show fine in the movie. With idx and sub files I get nothing.
In subresync, I can open a srt file and everything shows up, but I open a sub file and nothing again.
Has anyone ever seen this ? Both types worked before I formatted and reinstalled.
    Thanks

  2. You have to install DirectVobSub. Your SRT subs are showing up because Media Player Classic has its own subtitle engine. The VSFilter.dll has nothing to do with subs showing up in your player.

vsfilter contains directvobsub and MPC's internal renderer can show text and vobsubs (vsfilter/directvobsub/mpc are all based on the same code).

  4. Oh, so I'm wrong about that? And he should be able to play the IDX/SUB subtitles with the setup he has already? If so, then thanks for the correction.

Well when you register vsfilter.dll, you get directvobsub and autodirectvobsub. So if that is what they meant by install, then yes vobsubs should work in dshow based players.

If you have MPC's output set to VMR7/9 or Haali's renderer then it doesn't matter since the internal sub renderer should be used.

How do I tell if Media Player is set to vmr7/9 ?
I do have directvobsub installed, and I made sure that vsfilter.dll is in c:\winnt\system32, and did a regsvr32 of it.
In WMP, if I go to properties while the vid is playing, Directvobsub(autoloading version) shows on the advanced tab, but the subtitles don't show up. I have two different films with these formats, so I don't think it's the sub file.
Thanks for any help. Like I said, it worked before the reinstall, but I can't tell what's different.

Nevwe mind. It's actually a diffrent problem. When I go to the vobsub filter in the advanced properties, the language is set to English. If I change it to a diffreent language, they show. Then go back and change them to English and the English subs show. So this is actually a problem with the sub file.
    Thanks
