  1. I'm just getting started and have authored a few test movies to DVD-R using Adobe Premier Elements and Nero Express. They play on my PC's DVD drive, no problem, they play on my neighbours two DVD players. However on my BOSE system they play the video but there is no sound.

Using gspot I compared my .vob files with those of a commercial DVD (which plays fine). They both show PAL/MPEG-2 with AC3 codec. The only difference I can see is that the commercial disk was recorded at 5341bps video and 224k audio whereas my burned movie was 8813bps and 192k, and one is TFF and the other BFF. I can't see that these should cause a problem.

    So I'm stuck.....

That is a little unusual. Since you are in PAL land, you might try MP2 audio instead.

    The DVD audio specs:

    PAL:
    Audio:
    48000 Hz
    32 - 1536 kbps
Up to 8 audio tracks containing Dolby Digital, DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2. One audio track must have MPEG-1, DD or PCM Audio.
    NTSC:
    Audio:
    48000 Hz
    32 - 1536 kbps
Up to 8 audio tracks containing DD (Dolby Digital/AC3), DTS, PCM(uncompressed audio), MPEG-1 Layer2. One audio track must have DD or PCM Audio.
(These are from 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page.)

I notice that NTSC specifically mentions AC3, while PAL does not. But I would think it should still work. Maybe a player setting? You could try a test DVD with MP2 audio instead and see if that works. It won't use much more space on the DVD.

EDIT: I see you found a easier solution. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the correct one.

    And welcome to our forums.
