I bought the Sony HDR HC7 (for under £800GBP at http://www.purelygadgets.co.uk/prodinfo2.php?prodid=3322&gclid=COP5_MHw54oCFRCObgodqUqCqQ).
On the side it says x.v.colour. Some mumbling on another forum suggests that this wider colour space will only work on a Sony LCD screen. But a big of Googling reveals:
From http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200701/07-001E/index.html
And if I look at Wikipedia for xvYCC it states:Sony Corporation today announced the introduction of the sub brand name "x.v.Color", and its compliance logo, for products which conform to "xvYCC", the international standard for wide color space within moving images.
Therefore it would appear that if the LCD supports HDMI 1.3 then it supports this wider colour space? For example I am thinking of the Samsung F71 Series 40" which other forums claim supports 1.3. What do others think? Also do you need a HDMI cable for each revision, EG a 1.3 HDMI cable or are all the cables the same?[/quote]xvYCC or Extended-gamut YCC is a color space used in video electronics, supporting 1.8 times as many colors as the sRGB color space[1]. An xvYCC display, along with Deep Color to reduce posterization, can display the full range of colours viewable by the human eye — these two technologies form the colour specification of HDMI 1.3. xvYCC was specified by the IEC in October 2005 and published in January 2006 as IEC 61966-2-4. The wider spectrum of LED backlighting replacing cold cathodes has enabled this extension of the LCD display colour gamut.

Having a new HC5 with the same x.v.colour, I'm interested in this, too. However, I'm not buying a HD tv for a few years until most of this (along with the deinterlace issues) are straightened out. But so far, coming from an old Canon hi8 A1 (which still works), I'm a very happy camper with the HC5.

Got answer from Sony Tokya:
My apologises for the delay in replying. It has taken some time for my colleagues in Tokyo to reply to my e-mails regarding your comments and questions.
A product listed as having HDMi version 1.3 does not necessarily mean that it will have all of the features listed under the version classification, indeed some of the features are optional, including the xvYCC wide colour standard.
At this time, Sony does not actively promote HDMi classification, mainly for above reasons, instead preferring to promote the individual model features.
The need for a new HDMi cable really depends on the cable, which also have a HDMi rating. The main thing to consider is if any current cables would be able to handle the increased bandwidth (10.2GBps) that comes with version 1.3
I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please feel free to ask.
