I just started using subtitle workshop and i want to know how much time is the normal lenght of each subtitle to display for a dvd and also i'd like to know how to change it so the subtitle normally adjusts to this new lenght instead of the normal 1 second. Thank you

I don't think there are any official rules for how long to display a subtitle. Take a look at this link, under "Del 2 - Insättningsteknik" where they give some rules (min. 2 seconds for a short sub on one line, 4 - 6 seconds for subs on two lines). It is in Swedish, but since you are in Denmark I guess you should be able to understand it without any major problems. I do not know where these rules come from but they are quite OK.

Use <CTRL> + L in Subtitle Workshop to adjust the minimum and maximum duration of the subtitles. If you want a really good result you should set the duration of each and every subtitle manually, depending on the amount of text in the sub. Subtitle Workshop is a fantastic tool but for this purpose I would use VisualSubSync.

Thanks for the link. And it took some time for an answer so I just started setting the time manually so it fits better... I am texting a whole movie though so it might take QUITE a while

i would make a different post but i think i better post here rather than else where.

But its relate to this. I have a 2 parts of srt subtitle file for each part.
the 1st srt start from 0-45mins of the movie the second part starts from 0-35mins now i joined them both together but the second part is started. I have to sync the 2nd subtitle but i only want to make it from the start of the 2nd part and the end part of the movie which i joined 2parts in VituralDub. How do i do this without changing the show and hide time?

It is a bit unclear to me what the problem is. You have joined two .srt-files but I do not understand if the second .srt is just a little out of sync or if the timing begins from "0" again.

If it begins from 0 again you didn't join the two parts correctly. Make sure "Recalculate time values" is checked when you join the two in Subtitle workshop.

If it is a bit out of sync: Read the Subtitle workshop manual (press F1), section 2.2.4: advanced subtitle adjust. What you want to do is more or less this: Load your joined *.srt, Press ctrl+B, select the "advanced"-tab. Press "add" and write the start time of your 2nd subtitle file according to the file (format: hours:minuteseconds, thousands) in the "old time" field and the time when you would like it to start in the "new time" field. Do the same for the last sub in the 2nd subtitle file. Make sure that "Return original times (no changes) is selected. Press Adjust! and save the file under a new name.
