I've been working with other COMPUTER help forums and this is the first time I am trying a video help forum so hopefully a video specific forum can help me with this.

I have tried various programs and cannot get it to go. The last program I have tried was "SUPER". Dont know if any of you have heard of it or not. It is the latest version of the program and it gave me errors all over. I followed everything and nothing worked.

    Anyway heres the story.

My digital camera only takes .mov's and I would like to use Windows Movie Maker or other studio programs to compile some movies.

This has been a headache and a half. I just want to convert these .mov files to files that are useful .wmv's would be nice or .mpeg's would be nice too.

mp4camtoavi works really well. I guess you can also try MpegStreamClip for Windows.

an older version of super worked with the 'silent films' from my digital still camera

but the best thing I have found to work most often on MOV is QT pro,

i use it to export the file to MP4 ( its a slow process ) then edit/compile/covert my movies

    off topic

I have switched to using a Hi8 analog camera ( a gift ) , the quality is way better than the movie mode of my digital still camera

most of the time i end up just catching stuff with my camera phone because it's handy

but since its Verizons enV with QVGA , it an't to shabby for a phone cam, BUT it will never compare to the Hi8, which was a top of line 'in its day'

and yeah I know the NEW digital camcorders using DV on tape or memory stick are even better

and so is $10,000 digital HD cam, and on & on

Handling MOV's in Windows can seem daunting at first. I'll share how I handle them.

Software needed: (all free, by the way)
    Quicktime Alternative
    Haali Media Splitter
AviSynth 2.5.7 - plus the (not included) QTSource plug-in
    VirtualDubMOD
    Media Player Classic
WMNicEnc - for encoding to Windows Media
QuEnc or HCEnc - for encoding to MPEG-2

Simple two-line AviSynth script to get started:

    Code:
    loadplugin("path_to_qtsource.dll")
    qtsource("your_mov_file.mov",audio=true)
Install all the software and then feed the script (created in Notepad) into Media Player Classic or VirtualDubMOD to preview. When all is good, feed the same script into one of the above mentioned encoders.
