Hi, just wondering which software is the most recommended for converting to and from FLV and mpg4(even if it only does those 2), with the following in mind..

    1. Best Free software
    2. Best payed software
    3. Best overall(whether free or not)

Also are there any FLV plugins for major apps, like ulead, sony, adobe etc?

    1. SUPER, Riva FLV Encoder, FLV Extract with VirtualDub (for FLV to Mp4)
    2. Probably Adobe Premiere (Elements) not sure about Sony VEGAS
    3. Nothing I know of is incredible at both MPEG-4 and FLV. SUPER is probably your best bet.

    2. - would be the on2 encoder for flv hands down .... one of the few that can do on2 flv in fact (which is by far the best quality for flv files)

i have saved/captured a lot of FLV's from youtube and i use super to convert them to 3g2 for my phone,

i've been very happy with the results, of course on most of it there is no change in resolution or the flv gets downscaled during the conversion

I only tried up scaling/converting a few times and was not happy with the result

    bigMach,
Virtualdub will accept FLV if you have a vfw FLV codec on your system like ffdshow's FLV. Using FLV Extract demultiplexes your FLV file into FLV AVI, which VirtualDub will import, and converts the Audio to .mp3. So on the video side you use Virtualdub and whatever filters you want, then encode it to DivX, XviD, 3ivX etc. on the audio side use whatever you want (BeLight etc.) to convert to AAC (I use dbPowerAmp) then re-mux together with YAMB. A lot of steps but with the filtering options you can up the quality from horrible to really really bad.

flash is not the best - it does only single pass encoding for one thing ... you have to step up to the pro version written by on2 to get all the advanced encoding features

Just wondering, how to just play flv files with super without opeing and loading the video.
I tried selecting mplayer.exe as the program for flv, but a dos box always pops up with the video box, and there no controls etc...

    Super is an encoder.
    Playback is for preview.
It basically just does "mplayer whatever.flv -fs"
Who wants flv full screen anyway.

For playback use the riva flv player.
Or try and find a mplayer gui that a.works for you, b. has the controls you want.
VLC should work most of the times I think. I don't have VLC though, don't use it.

What about Plato Video Converter? SUPER? I've also got a program something that is from cutedvd.com.. something called Acela free 3gp (or whatever) video converter.

Does this help? (It's free, as well. Check out the website.)
