I have been trying to create a SVCD with chapters (no menu) using VCDEasy v1.1.5.2 . I have been partially successful insofar as having managed to create chapters that can be selected with the numeric keypad on a DVD player or soft player remote. For some reason, NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons don't have any effect -- they are greyed out on my soft player. If anyone has any experience with this, please help.

I'm attaching the .xml file generated for this project by VCDEasy.

    Thanks.

Your xml seems to be ok...

How does your settop DVD player react to [NEXT] and [PREVIOUS] ?
Maybe your soft player maps those to different buttons/keys... Try other players.

My DVD player acts the same way. NEXT and PREVIOUS don't work, but chapters can be selected by number.

I used VCDEasy to extract an .xml from a TUS KVCD. I have no problem using the troubled buttons with their stuff. The structure of the .xml looks somewhat different. Attached...

With the exception of the goofy (and wasted) HotSpot code, it looks VERY MUCH like yours. Maybe you need a newer version of VCDImager (or try LKVCDImager like theirs).

Is your XML pre-compile or ripped from the disc? Are there any differences there? If so, there might be a compile bug.

My .xml is what VCDEasy produced specifically for this project -- I didn't use a template -- was that your question?

You know, I ran through the process again, but instead of first generating an .xml, I had the program create an image directly. I also made sure that all the "interactivity" settings were left at default. This time (miraculously?) the finished product functioned properly on the settop, although it exhibited the same problem on the soft player. This is good enough for me. Still not sure what went wrong. I'll try a couple of more burns with the same process. If they work out ok, I don't think I'll dig further.

    Really appreciate your help, Scott.

VCDEasy creates the XML (and sometimes the CUE/BIN and burn too) when you tell it [GO].

As you also know, VCDEasy has additional tools, one of them being VCDXrip, which rips the contents of a burned VCD back to Hardddrive. In addition to the tracks/files, it creates an XML of the on-disc structure.

    What I'm saying is:
Use VCDXrip on the 1st burned (bad) disc.
Use VCDXrip on the 2nd burned (not-so-bad) disc.

Use a binary file compare on these 2 and the original XML.
    See where the differences lie.

If anything significant becomes evident, let us all know, as it may help the next Joe.

Glad it's working better for you...

OK, I compared the two and they looked the same to me. I wonder if the difference in results had something to do with "detailed" CUE. I selected "BIN/detailed CUE" when I tried the two step process (create .xml, create bin/cue). The second time I just had the program create BIN/CUE directly and there was no option to selected "detailed CUE." Instructions that came with VCDEasy said that "detailed CUE" is the one to choose when creating chapters, but that some burners ignore the additional info. Maybe I have one of those burners?
