  1. Hi there friends

I have recently started to use DVD Lab Pro [latest version], and I am a perfect newbie in this regard. I would like to the following, so I would appreciate if someone could tell me how should I approach. I have seen the guides available but could not understand which process I should follow to get the desired result.

I have shot a video and encoded the Video to mp2 format already [3.3GB] Duration: 1hr 28min.
I have the audio separately encoded as 5.1AC3 [849MB].
I have made an introduction to the main video of about 22min43sec duration.

So I would like to add the introduction and the main video in the resultant DVD [DVD5] in such a way that it should accessible from Menu.
The Menu should be multi paged.
Moreover there should be Subtitle which should be perfectly displayed in both Wide screen [16:9] and 4:3 format.
To fit the intro in the same DVD5 should I demux audio and encode it separately in AC3 format?

In a nutshell I want make it a presentable Wide Screen DVD in a professional manner.

I would be grateful if one of you experienced member can guide me through. I would like to make the guide as my main reference for any of my future projects.

    Please help

    Thank you.

DLP prefers, and works best with, elementary streams. Where ever possible, use these instead of program streams or, god forbid, VOBs. (There is an exception to this rule - attaching external VTS - but that is for another day)

For some reading, start with ReBoot's guide : https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=220092

The this page at Mediachance, the home of DLP : http://mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/index.html

Also, the help file that ships with DLP is pretty good for what it covers.

What you want to do is very simple. In a nutshell, create a standard, single VTS project.

    Add an extra movie object.

Put your intro movie and audio into movie 1, and the main title into movie 2.

Create your main menu and any sub menus you need.

Link your main menu to your movie 1 object. On the connections window draw a connection from the end of movie 1 to the start of movie 2.

Link up your other menu objects and compile and test.

I know that this was stupidly brief and has no detail, but all the details you need are in the manual and guides. I have just given you the basic process.

But you also need to understand that this is just the mechanics of creating a DVD. Any decent authoring tool can do this. But this does not make it look like a professional DVD. That comes down to planning and preparation. Linking all the parts of a DVD together is pretty easy. But it will still look like amateur night if you haven't planned it out first.

Finally, DLP does not do any hand holding. It's not hostile, but it isn't warm and fuzzy either. As I said earlier, what you want is actually pretty simple, and could be done by other software better suited to beginners. Just keep this in mind if the going gets tough.

Just started using DVD Lab Pro myself, after using Nero Express and Ulead Movie Factory, I realize I have a lot to learn. The tutorials are pretty good, I'm starting with simple projects and learning one thing at a time. I'm sold on the elementary stream principle and AC3 audio for DVDs.
Kind of reminds me of Adobe Premiere; it makes great stuff, but the skills of the operator are the key.
