  1. I seem to be having a problem capturing Type 2 DV file with WinDV using my Canon ZR700. I did not have this problem when capping with my Panasonic MiniDV just a few weeks previously.

I can capture to Type 2 but do not have any audio in the subsequent AVI file that is created. I can copy to Type 1 and get audio, and can even encode with TMPEGEnc to DVD compliant MPEG2.

However, I am now trying to copy Hi8 using my MiniDV cam with A-D passthru (which my camera can do) to take advantage of the TBC effect it has. I also need to heavily edit some of the footage from this. When I tried it with TMPEGEnc, it will freeze up after about 30 % of so of the job.

I tried out VirtualDubMod, but it is complaining about the Type1 DV file.

    What to do?

    TIA

IIRC, I've had a similar issue with my Canon MiniDV (it's been a few months since I've transfered any vid, so the memory is sketchy ). I think I ended up transferring as Type 1, then using the Canopus DV converter when I needed Type 2.

Also, there's a bug in WinDV having to do with the camera controls, which can lead to no audio in some cases. Just use the camera's own controls to start the playback, then hit "Capture" in WinDV.

    Hope that helps,
    Jim
