I agree with you about the subtitles. It's a lingering question on my mind too. I remember when I tried experimenting with those, I always ended up with hard-coded subs no matter what I did. What I haven't tried yet is to do the authoring as a separate step using the ffmpegx author tool and use the subs as a parameter there. If anyone has this totally figured out, I'm sure an explanation would be greatly appreciated by everyone.
