  1. I need something good to edit TV shows (edit out commercials add title possible menus) recorded via TV tuner card and then burn as SVCD or DVD. Doesnt have to be freeware, any suggestions? Sorry if this is a repost! Thanks!!!

You need a MPEG editor and a authoring program. There are a few that do both, but I'll let others suggest them. I use separate programs for that.

    I use:

MPEG Video Wizard, or there is MPEG-VCR for a lower priced alternative MPEG editor. Freeware, Cuttermaran.

TMPGEnc DVD Author for titles, menus and DVD authoring. There are freeware programs like DVDAuthorgui or GUI for dvdauthor.

The freeware ImgBurn to burn to DVD.

  3. Can we assume your recorded TV shows (via TV tuner card) are captured in mpeg2 format?

  4. You can always use VirtualDub [free] irrespective of the video be in mpeg1 or 2.

I have 2 commercial editors. I use MPEGVCR for standard definition captures VideoReDo for high def captures. I could use only one of them for both types of captures. I've had problems using MPEGVCR with high def video and while VideoReDo does work fine on standard definition MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video, I find MPEGVCR easier to use on that, hence why I use 2 different editors. You can try both editors before buying. I originally bought MPEGVCR and used only it for years, but when I began to start capturing high def video, I found it to not work very well with high def video, so I bought VideoReDo specifically to edit HD captures.

  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I use a ATi TV Wonder Elite card which captures files as mpeg2.
I currently use Nero 6 Ultra and its pretty easy and qaulity is good. Was just wondering if there is something better? I tried Nero 7 Ultra and it was a nightmare!!! Froze everytime when it was encoding. I'll have to take a lokk at the ones mentioned here.

  7. If your captures are in Mpeg2 then I think you can easily use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. If you are acquainted and comfortable with Linux then the LIVE will be a perfect tool for you.
