Hi, I have a DVD+R which when I try to copy always has read errors. This is because the disc has bad dye most probably, the disc isn't commercially available so I can't just get another copy. Anyway the read errors come in at about 92%, I tried 'ignore read errors' on dvd decrypter, but after about 2 hours it was still getting them. Is there a way to copy this dvd as it is? with the read errors? I know some of the dvd may not be viewable, which is fine..but it all plays fine on my dvd player, so if i copy it, theoretically it should all play ok. But I can't find a way of doing it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I would try other software programs such as DVDFabDecrypter (free).
Or you can download other programs to try "RipIt4Me", ect. Cant hurt and you might get lucky with another program. Yep, if you can get it on your hard drive you are good to go.

DVD Fab Decrypter seems to be good at stubborn discs, otherwise ISOBuster.
Read my blog here.

uka100 - You should consider that fritzi93's suggestion to run the DVD drive overnight (This won't work for DVD Decrypter for various reasons as you probably know and maybe he doesn't - mostly because at some point DVD Decrypter gives up and requires manual intervention to continue trying) will shorten the life of your drive. I wish I could tell you how much, but using a drive overnight in a desperation rip will definitely take some of the life out of it. Whether the drive craps out a day earlier than normal, a week, a month or even two, I don't know, but it will cause your drive to wear out somewhat faster.
Are you REALLY sure that whatever is on this disc isn't available commercially? You might be right, but the only reason I ask is that sometimes people say this and they have only checked, say, Amazon.com and given up when it wasn't there. I've found stuff on DVD that most people would think didn't exist. It actually did exist, but it was only in print in a foreign country such as France.
Ebay is also a very good source for "DVDs that don't exist" as you'd be very surprised what kind of stuff I have found only there and nowhere else. -
It's been awhile since I had to resort to this, but I'm fairly certain that if you set DVDDecrypter to ignore read errors and enter a reasonable number of retries (say 5), it will grind its way through eventually. Without further intervention.
I have used a spare DVD-Rom drive for that in the past to save wear on my burners.
AFAIK, DVDFabDecrypter does essentially the same thing, but automatically. Seven read error retries, if memory serves. I forget any particulars about IsoBuster, it's been too long.
You'll find that a worthwhile amount of data can be salvaged with a few retries, but it's a case of diminishing returns. Don't think more than 10 will get you much of anything, but will greatly prolong the process.
Anyway, good luck with it.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
The last hard to rip - due to disc condition - disc that I successfully ripped was by using RipIt4Me: Not certain what they've put into the program; but this was a disc that I couldn't get with isobuster, anydvd, dvdfabdecrypter or (of course) dvddecrypter.

NiteLite: Thanks very much I used DVDFabDecrypter, and it took a little while but it got there
.
jman98: Nah haha, it's a video of my holiday with my old school to Shanghai, China.
I will try and get more data through other methods, because when I play the dvd in my dvd player it plays all of it fine (but my older has problems with it near the end). So maybe also some of my problem is my dvd reader not being the best.
Thanks everyone. -
One thing to be mindful of is that your copied disc may have playability problems. The programs that are more successful at copying discs with read errors on the source disc are those that are better able to skip/ignore errors. It doesn't mean these bad areas on your source disc are somehow fixed. If you're lucky, you may not notice anything other than a brief skip or pixelated spot when you play the copy. IF you're not lucky and the error occurred at a more critical spot such as in an IFO file, you may have a more serious playability problem.

take the output from your dvd player via the highest quality mode and stick it into the input of a(nother) settop dvd recorder. play and record. -

Thanks for posting back and letting us know what worked for you.
Always good to know of alternatives that might help us next time we run into that problem.

i used ISO buster to recover some DVD's i made of the winter olympics, the DVD recorder gave me some bad burns in some sectors, and the images would freeze on the screen and the disc stop playing
ISO buster, copied the disc filling in the bad sectors/image area's
yes when the disc is played motion stops at that spot for a split second ( freeze frame ) but the disc keeps playing and the action jumos forward and we are able to finish watching them.
these were made with a borowed machine.
luckily only 3 ot of 10 had problems and i was able to salvage those because of ISObuster -
hi, give "Dead disk doctor" a try, don't be put off by the dodgy looks of the program,it worked a treat when i had a disk that isobuster failed to read, there is a free trial also
It also helps to have different drives to try the disk in as some drives read better than others so if you only have one dvd drive find a mate with a pc and dvd drive and try the disc and programs on thier pc's
