The last few times I tried to burn .avi files (also mpegs) onto a DVD-R, I kept coming up with this error:
It would tell me the name of the file, and directly below it would say "The Above Name is Invalid" and not allow me to continue.
This happened to me BEFORE and AFTER I burnt the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie (For a little tike) and the Departed (not for a little tike). That disc worked brilliantly, but whenever I try and burn the Transformers for him, it comes up with that error. It also does that when I try the Simpsons episodes.
The transformer episodes are .AVI and the Simpsons are .MPEG. This error came up when I tried both Nero and DVDSanta. This DID NOT happen when I burnt the Power Rangers and The Departed Movies.
The only thing I can think of is something is corrupt in the files I downloaded, but I can play them fine with VLC media player.
Any help guys?

Take a close look at the title of the video before you burned it. A name like 'The Departed&*%$' will often fail as it uses non-standard characters in the name. Or the name could be way too long, though that is rare with newer versions of Windows. Other than those two exceptions, I haven't seen that problem.
But someone else may have some better ideas.
And welcome to our forums.

Ah... there's another problem. Whenever I right-click, all I get is five options. Yes, only five options.
When I try and click the name, so I can re-name it (since rename is not included in the five options) all I get is that annoying beep noise that happens when the computer won't execute your command.
Do you know why?
