After I "upgraded" to the latest version of Catalyst Control Center (v7.2, out 02/21/07), I noticed a new process in my task manager: MOM.exe.

A quick search on Google told me it was a trojan/spyware that was logging all my computer activities (keylogger) and taking screenshots when certain words were used, then sending them to "them".

This had me a little freaked

after reading bad stuff and getting more and more paranoid, but Spyware Dr., Ad-Aware, and Noron weren't finding any bad stuff on my machine...

I added the term "ati" to my Google search.
Apparently I'm not the only one who was freaking out about this.

Thanks for scaring the shit out of people, ATI!

I block a bunch of programs that want to 'phone home'. My HP printer (LAN printer) has about 5 sites it wants to log onto. ATI is probably similar. Nero is another one. Most of them just want to check for updates, but I don't appreciate them doing that without my 'express written consent'. I block them all with my software firewall and nothing has exploded on my computer yet.

I have about 45 different programs and parts of programs in my firewalls 'Application List'. Some of them are from Windows and the rest installed programs. I just block the ones that don't really need access. I don't have a ATI card in my computer at present, and strangely enough, my Nvidia card doesn't seem to be listed there. The last version of Catalyst I used reminded me of Nero bloatware. I question why a video driver needs to be that big. It's about 30MB now.
