I need help in sharing a folder on my Maxtor external hard drive!

I have a laptop and a desktop, which the external hard drive is connected to the laptop becasue my desktop doesn;t reginoze USB for some reason and it is really slow beacuse have i have so may files in it and lots of spywares that donesn;t clean up.

So my ext hard drive is connected to the laptop and made a shred folder on the ext hard drive, then i went to my desktop to transfer files wirelessly to the laptop straight into the ext h d, but keep getting a error message:

Cannot create or replace file name: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not in currently in use.

I dont' know why it says that, the files are not in use, not full, not write-protected

Any kind of help would much appreciated!!

    Thanx

  3. Can you confirm that if you share a folder on the internal hard drive that it behaves correctly? This will help rule out any overall permissions issues.

  5. What I meant was: on the computer with the external drive, what happens if you share a folder on that computer's main (internal) drive? Can you access the files from the other computer?

If you cannot, it would suggest that you need to change the permissions on the computer that has the external drive.

If you can, it would suggest that there is something very specific about the external drive. I don't know what, but this first step would help indicate where the problem is.

Have you ticked the share option to "allow others to modify my files"? otherwise it's a read-only share you've made!

If you have an infected desktop and share volumes with your laptop it is highly likely you will also have an infected laptop in short order.

Clean up your desktop system. Make sure your problem isn't disk fragmentation.

If you can't clean it with anti-spyware (try multiple free packages like spybot, avg, Microsoft Defender), reformat and reload.

  8. DOS is your friend
open up a dos command box (start -> all programs -> accessories -> dos command prompt -> type chdir /?
chdir <directory name> your directory and drive
    del fcking-file.* <die! file! die!>
THEN defrag your drives for 10 hours
    remove spyware? re-install windows quicker..
