    Hello !

I currently have a Radeon 9800 Pro and the latest Catalyst drivers and
    Control Center.

When I play a video file using Windows Media Player, I can use the sliders in
the Catalyst Control Center to change the brightness and Gamma values
for the video I'm watching. I have to do that because otherwise, all
the videos are dark, there is very little contrast and it's very hard
    to see anything.

The problem is, I have started using Media Player Classic (to view home DVDs) and
VLC media players, and when using those, I can't change the brightness or contrast
of the video. Using the sliders in the Catalyst Control Center has no effect on these
    video players.

What can I use to change the brightness of videos when using MPC and VLC ?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sounds like overlay/hardware acceleration is disabled for mpc and vlc.

What Directshow Video setting do you use in mpc? under view->options->playback->output in mpc.

  4. You want to enbable Video Overlay if it's not already enabled. (Overlay creates a hole in the Windows desktop through which video is viewed. The video in that hole has it's own brightness, contrast, scaling etc.) Then use the proc amp controls for Video Overlay to adjust the brightness and contrast for the video (not for the desktop). This should give you a baseline that will work with all media players. Then you can use the media players proc amp controls to fine tune for each video if necessary.

Unfortunately, the location of these controls varies with the graphics card's drivers. Right click on an empty part of the desktop and select Properties. From the Display Properties dialog select the Settings tab. Press the Advanced button. From there on out you have to search...
