AC3 to MP3 audio conversion in a video

hi every body

i have a video which is .avi fomat v it has a audio in AC3 format

i am trying to convert the ATSC/A-52 Dolby AC3 audio to AUDIO layer 3 MP3

is there any way to convert it.

as far as i know i have to extract the audio and convert it and then append the audio can do it

but i am not being able to find the software to do it. some body should help me here.

if there any way to convert the audio with out extracting it will be even better

First: Why?
If you really have to, first make sure you have AC3 decoding and MP3 encoding set up (AC3 ACM codec + Lame MP3 ACM)
Load AVI in VirtualDub, set video to direct stream, audio to full processing, select and configure Lame MP3 to suit you, and save as new AVI.

i want to convert because the rmvb converters are not supporting the AC3 audio format...

In that case, convert the AC3 to wave. Converting to MP3 will lose quality unnecessarily. Wave files are much bigger than MP3 or AC3, but you only need it temporarily.
