playback issue

ok, i've been searching forums for a good 8 hours now and i finally broke down and started to post. yes i've tried the search button and google. ok here's my problem.

i want to play larger video files.. 500mb+ - 1gb... the files, they play but, every 10-20 seconds i get a delay in the playback(just for a split sec or 2). the video and audio stay in synch. i've been able to play these larger movie files on this system befor. i've recently reformatted, and i did install my video drivers and updated them the same way as i did befor. smaller video files play allmost flawless. i've tried a lot of diff troubleshooting... closing EVERYTHING. i disabled all unnessasary system services. i've turned down hardware accelleration.. i've tried changing to lower colours. i have a radeon 7500 video card, which i uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.. and tried on older drivers also.. i really dont know what to do.. these movies, they used to play just fine. so if anyone has any other idea's please share!
