I have a video that is perfectly in sync until about 3/4 of the way through. I assume they were originally multiple avi's and then joined together, because the issue appears suddenly. The part that is out of sync is sudden, consistantly out of sync(not gradual), and occurs during the last 1/4 of the avi.

I'm trying to figure out how to simply shift only that section of the audio or video to match it up, and i'm not sure how to do it. I'm trying to use Vegas, and also virtualdub but can't seem to get anywhere. There is a second or two of transition between the corrupted and uncorrupted where i could cut a few frames or something if needed. I'm not an experienced Vegas user and can't get the video and audio treated individually for some reason. I've split the audio(and apparently the video too), but when i try to only shift the audio, the video moves with it. Any help would be appreciated greatly

ok i've saved the file as mp3, demuxed the original video and ripped the audio from it with avimux, remixed it with new mp3 audio, and now i want to do one simple last thing. I want to cut the first few frames from the beginning of the video. I open it in virtualdub and cut the frames, but why does it have to re-render the whole freaking video? can't i just cut the frames and then save it and be done?

I could see two reasons. How are you saving it? Default is 'Full Processing mode'. If you are just cutting, then you can use 'Direct stream copy' instead and no re-encoding involved. But you need to cut on a keyframe. If you cut just anywhere, then you may need to re-encode. And if you have to re-encode, make sure to choose a codec or it will encode as RGB by default and make a huge file.

excellent! i'm glad to hear that. i've tested it and that solution works great. i had already demuxed it, converted to wav, cut what i needed, then muxed it again. i should have just waited for your reply, but i'll know for next time
