I'm new to this forum and I'm not too computer savvy, yet I'm the best my job has. Haha, go figure. Anyways, I'm making a presentation on powerpoint and I want to put a 1 min or less video clip on it. How would I go about transferring from my mini DV video recorder to my computer for use on a powerpoint presenation? Is this even possible?

Also, while we're on the subject, how would I go about getting sound clips from a mini DV video?

    Thank You.

Yes it is possible to use video in a Powerpoint presentation. I've only done it once and it was some time ago, but it can be done. Transfer as DV.avi over Firewire using WinDV. Once you have the video on your computer, you'll need to decide what form of compression you need to use. This will depend on the frame size and how good quality you want.

If I remember right, I encoded to VCD spec mpeg1, although I suppose you could use WMV.

You'll need to give it a try and see what the result looks like.

  3. Your simplest bet is to use Windows Movie Maker.

It will capture your DV and then you can use it to create .WMV format video files. These can then readily embedded into Powerpoint.

Also, if you are going to use a projector, make sure that the video clip will actually be visible. Often, you'll just see a black rectangle unless you configure the computer accordingly.
