Lightscribe won't work in Nero 7!

Hi All

Just bought a Samsung SHS182M Lightscribe - I was strongly advised not to install the Firmware Live Updates but to install the driver for it.

The Device Manager shows that the driver has installed, even though I hadn't installed it myself?! and works fine accept that I can't get the lightscribe working (using nero7 Ultra)

I installed the Dos_Driver after exploring the disc that came with it - still nothing!!

I have Nero 7 Ultra (completely updated) which should have lightscribe functionality but doesn't appear on the file menu when I select to print - I followed some online instructions and everything was fine until I couldn't find the 'Print using lightscribe' command in the file drop-down menu.

- Can anyone shed some light on this?

My operating system is XP. Processor speed 2.6GHz. 512MB RAM.

you need to install and have the lightscribe system software running in order for anything to find and use the lightscribe part of the drive.

Nope - I've done that

I'm considering contacting Nero. I thought it might have been something I was doing wrong (not well up in IT), it seems i've followed each step, the only thing I haven't done is install the firmware from Samsung - Do you think that might be it?

I had the same problem ending up by almost sending back my HP Burner. But . . . It seemed that something in my WinXP system did mess up something. I still don't know what it was but when I reinstalled Windows and did all the updates (again!!) and after that first installed the Lightscribe Host driver and than Nero 7.5 it all worked out OK. I don't know about the cause but I think something wend wrong with a windows component and the lightscribe host.

When I had the problem I did see in Nero's Drive-info that the drive was Lightscribe enabled.

Can you see in NEro that you have a lightscribe enabled burner?

You may be OK. Lightscribe under Nero only works in Nero Express. Start Nero Express and up at the top make sure your Lightscribe drive is selected and you should magically see an option for Lightscribe. There is no other way to do Lightscribe in Nero through the normal (non-Express) GUI that experienced users prefer to use. Gotta love that.

I've tried what you said - I started nero express and went through the sequence to burn an audio cd, selected the samsung writer, burnt the disc, but I can't locate the lightscribe function. I tried cover designer and nothing appears in the file menu which is lightscribe.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Let us know if you can help.

At the top of Nero Express it should say

Which recorder would you like to use?

Choose the recorder that does Lightscribe. Pick either the DVD or CD entry, whichever you want to make. Now you should see a window that says

What would you like to burn?

Print Lightscribe Label should be the bottom choice on this. If you don't see that, then for some reason the Lightscribe drivers aren't installed.
