Firstly, I have just built my new computer based on an Intel e6600 Core 2 Duo Cuo 2.4ghz overclocked to 3.6ghz, so speed is absolutely not an issue here.

I will be using Adobe Premiere 2.0 as my main editing software.

My plan is to use my sony dv camcorder as a pass through device, connected to my tape player. Once the DV file has been transferred to my computer, then I will begin editing.

What I am looking for is some good video noise reduction as the tape is over 20 years old. Is neat video the best out there? Is there anything else I could do to improve my workflow?

    Thanks

You don't think posting a screen cap of an example of the video noise might be helpful?

I ran it through the rude filter and fixed it.

This is one of the better recent discussions on the topic : https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=309181

For the most part it talks about avisynth filters and the various pro, cons and combinations. Well worth a read.

I have used Neat, and some of what it does is good, although like any noise reduction tool it is easy to start taking out details as well. It is also incredibly slow for what it does. There are combinations of avisynth filters (PeachSmoother, Convolution3D, VagueDenoiser etc) that can do an equal, and in some cases better, job as Neat, and will do it5 times faster (or more).
