I am having a serious problem. I am trying to put subtitles on an avi but i can't synchronise the audio with the video. Let's take it from the begining. The avi on the original state is ok.When i try to put the subtitles on the video, the file i am having after the process is synchronised, BUT only the first 3-4 minutes. Then the audio starts to be kinda "late". The matter is that i tried almost everything...i tried

    1) Demux the old sound. Subtitle the video without sound. Then put the old sound on the subtitled video. Problem not solved
    2) With VirtualDub tried to put the subtitles, full process the video and leave the audio unharmed (direct stream)but with no luck
    3) Tried a program called Media Subtitler but still, no luck
    4) Installed the latest AutoGK,Virtualdubmod,Avisynth reinstalled them 1 brazzilion time and still nothing

The matter is that when i am opening the file with Virtualdubmod it says something about VBR audio detected. VBR audio in avi is non standard and you encounter sync errors up to 5194ms when attempting to extract wav files....processing the auduio in direct stram copy. i also tried to preload 5194 ms of sound on the proccess but still nothing

    Please help me

Why you need to include the subtitles?
There are a lot of methods to display them as separate file.

I think what was wanted was a change to a topic specific title.

I've had problems once or twice with vdubmod and sound.
Try vdub, vdub mpeg2 or nandub to a wav file. Use full audio processing.
You might want to try vdubmod one more time. When you get the VBR warning dialog, answer 'no' and then save audio as wav, don't demux.
Convert back to CBR mp3 and mux.

You should be able to get it to work.

You might want to try out MEncoder to hardcode the subs. I believe it handles VBR audio fine.

    Ah.
    I hate hardcoded subs.
See if you can get firmware help/suggestions here:

  9. did you check the video for bad frames ?
do that, convert the audio to wav,try again.

does the sync go worse over time, or does it start at a certin point and
stays the same for the rest of the movie ?

you might want to cut the first part, save as an avi
cut the second part, save as an avi
sync the second part, and them join the parts together.

    hope something helps

by the way, if you cut it, use the lowest compression you can, so you
    wont loose much qulity

The video is ok. The sync is pretty messy cause,it does start on a specific time BUT you can see the speech less laggy on the mid of the movie and more laggy on the end

To be safe you should actually check for bad frames, as it can cause sync problems.
A run in divxrepair is enough.

    I still think it's a VBR problem.

Keep trying different audio extraction methods.
You could try Avidemux as well, it will offer to build a time map for you with vbr audio.
River past has audio extraction/conversion from avi.

One of the methods should give you synced audio or audio that no longer gradually losses sync but rather has a fixed offset.
Keep and check the wav files you get. You could always manually sync audio with an audio editor open in one window and virtualdub open in another to see mouth movement and timecode correlations. It's a good idea to check your wav audio independently anyway.

    good luck

Don't forget to set the audio to Full Processing when you save wav from VirtualDub

I found a solution (if i could tell it that way). I extracted the audio with VirtualDub (Save Audio) and i had an mp3 file. Then i tried to CBR it throughout Nero Wave editor and what i got was a 420 MB file (obviously because the video was 42 mins lenght). Then from Virtualdub i embedded the subs and the large audio file. It worked! But the problem was that i had a file 840 MB for a lenght of 42 mins video The matter is what should i do now? Encode it 2nd time?Cause if i won't make the audio to mp3 the file is doomed to be 800+ Mbs.

420 MB file is the wave file.
Don't add it to your video.
Yes re-encode to a Constant BitRate (CBR) MP3. You can use BeSweet to do that (and many many other programs, most will be using the lame encoder anyway).
Then add the new mp3 to your video with your subs.
