  1. Hi, e-readers!

Could you please advise me on a good dedicated mux and demux sofware that is is not too expensive? By dedicated I mean one that is not bundled with other features. For instance, some DVD authoring tools include some or more of these features, but I am not looking for a complete solution yet. I prefer a specialized and limited software.

    Greetings,

  2. Demux:
For (i.e. European) DVB Streams: ProjectX
    For DVDs: pgcdemux
For other streams: I don't know...
For multiplexing: Depends on the target. For DVDs, use the authoring program itself. For 'view on PC only' of mpeg sources: imago or bbmpeg or mplex

To demux and mux what ?

For AVI's, try AVI Demux or Virtualdubmod

For mpg, if you want free, then PGCDemux or Rejig for demuxing, and Muxman (free version) for muxing.

If you are happy to pay a little, look at the payware versions of Muxman (Premium or Professional) which will do both.

  4. Hello, Borax!

    Thanks kindly for your advice.

Pgcdemux sounds okay, but I think this one only demux and does not mux, right? Also, but I haven't tried this, maybe Pgcdemux works with MPEG2 DVD-compliant streams, doesn't it?

    Any other recommendations?

  5. Hello again, Guns1Inger!

I should have said that the more diiferent kind of streams an application can mux and demux, the better. So, if a sofware can work with some or all of AVI, WMV, Real, Flash, MPEG1, MPEG2, etc., the much better. However, if I had to choose which stream is more important to me, I would choose MPEG2.

Let me have a look at the paid version of Muxman. Maybe this is what I am looking for. It is frustrating to use one application for mux and another application for demux, so an all-in-one solution would be wonderful.

Take good care of yourself, Guns1Inger!

MPEG-VCR is a program made to edit MPEG video and it does this very well. It also has an excellent MUX and DEMUX option for MPEG videos.

Unfortunately the program is not freeware so if all you need is to MUX and DEMUX then it might not be your best option (when considering the cost that is).

  7. Hello, FulciLives!

Yes, I used to have the trial version of Womble MPEG-VCR, but it has expired now. At one point in the future, towards the middle of this year, I am planning to buy it (or the DVD version), but right now I cannot afford it. The paid version of Muxman is just $20.00, so I think that I will buy that one in the meantime.

One thing that I love about Womble's is its user-friendly ability to fade in and fade out video images and audio sounds without any re-enconding (except the fading part).

    Cheers,

  10. Prof_Unto,

Is it possible to mux, demux, and save the results with TMPGenc Version 2.524 without re-enconding? I briefly look at it and could see that you can choose the parameters for the output, so I guess it re-encodes.

disco: That is the encoder. You find the mpeg multiplexer and demultiplexer under file->mpeg tools.

  12. Good evening, Mats.Hogberg!

I am sure that your applications are great, but I prefet to mux and demux using the same software.

  13. Baldrick,

Thank you for your great advice, but it appears that the free version only works with MPEG1. Is there a free or not-so-expesive upgrade?

    CAL "Disco Mak"

P.S.: Or again, the MPEG1 issue only refers to the econding process and not to the mux and demux capabitlites?

I've never had any trouble using different apps for different tasks, like grinding the beans with one machine, and brewing the coffee with another... But hey, that's me!
AFAIK, the free TMPGEnc only encodes to mpg1 - the mpeg tools are functional for all supported file types.

mats: No, if you select to output type: mpeg2 when you multiplex it isn't free. Same for the simple editor in tmpgenc plus. The demultiplexer works fine.

OK - I stand corrected - Been a while since I used TMPGEnc to be honest, as there are so many free alternatives.

  17. Then, Mats, I am sure you are a completely organized person, well, or at least near average. I am totally the opposite...if you see this room right now, I am sure you wouldn't want to be my friend This also extends to my computer and my files. As a matter of fact, I was using two different tools for muxing and demuxing, but I got tired of trying to identify which one was for this or for the other, or using an unrelated application. That is why I am looking for one tool that do both.

    Hi

I was also looking for a similar tool and found this one.

    http://www.squared5.com/

Seems to do all mpeg tools in TMPGEnc Plus do and more.
And it is very fast and free too.
