I have captured some video from a hi8 source and have to crop some of it,I want the final video to be full screen.Should it be 640X480? and what resizing method would give me the best quality?Bicubic?I am using virtualdub.

If there's noise around the edges (video tape caps will usually have noisy garbage at the bottom) you can use the Fill function to overwrite it with black rather than cropping. Black borders eat hardly any bitrate. -
720x480 is the resolution. Setting your encoder to encode as 16:9 or 4:3 determines if it's WS(16:9) or FS(4:3).

16:9 and and 4:3 both use 720x480, the aspect is adjusted by the DVD player or whatever software you are using to play it back. **That's providing the right flag was set and the software repects it.
