  1. Hello,
I frequently download WMV video files from the internet from various different websites using different download managers. My problem is, sometimes one of the files I download, I can't time search it. It just plays from the start to the end, and won't let me rewind or forward (time search) the wmv file, I don't know whats wrong. It doesn't happen with all the files but with only a few. Please tell me how I can fix it, using some software to convert it into another format and back to wmv? or to just fix it so that I can time search the file.
    Thanks.

What function do you use in asfbin to "fix" a wmv file?

Typically, when trying to fix corrupt files, all you do is open the file in the tool and then save a new copy of the file. This usually works because the new file has a newly created index.

  5. It may just be the way the files are.

WMP (for example) uses DirectShow as the framework for playing media files and all of the "filters" that get used for a particular file have to support the "media seeking" capability. If one of them doesn't, the file can't be "seeked". A likely culprit is an unusual audio format.

    Try AsfTools. http://www.geocities.com/myasftools/?200713
It has an option for setting seekability flags but usually it's better to apply 'basic repair' mode.
