I backed up a disc using DVD Shrink and burned it with ImgBurn. The Menu does not respond properly in my DVD Player. The disc will begin playing when inserted, go through the warnings/notices and then its pre-menu garbage like previews/sales pitches. Everything plays properly. However when I hit the Menu button to skip right to the menu, the disc stops completely. If I let it run through all its pre-game and reach the Main Menu (which it does), it begins to play Episode 1 of the program even if I have used the Menu and selected Episode 5. And if I'm in the midst of watching the disc and want to return to the Menu, hitting the Menu button completely stops the disc.

Basically, at no point in the playing of the disc does the Menu button on my remote take me to the Menu. Instead it stops the disc entirely. Also, when I let it run through to reach the Menu (which appears to be the only way to arrive at/see the Menu), the Menu does not work properly anyway. I have backed up other discs using the Shrink/ImgBurn method and the functionality of all parts is fine. This Menu situation has happened in perhaps 5-10% of instances.

    Any advice? Thanks.

    ODog,

If you're not already doing so, you should try using RipIt4Me to get the dvd onto your hard drive before using DvdShrink. If you were getting a good rip, DvdShrink shouldn't be giving that result. Also, just to make sure, you should have DvdShrink output a VIDEO_TS - AUDIO _TS file structure for burning, not an ISO.

I see this was your first post here, so welcome to VideoHelp.

  3. I ran into a couple of discs that had similiar problems even when ripping with RipIt4Me. Under Logs/Settings - Preferences - Advanced Options, I unchecked Remove Protected Cells and that seemed to fix it.

I failed to mention that I am indeed using Ripit4Me before DVD Shrink. But I will definitely give the suggestions offered a try and see what happens. Keep 'em coming. Thanks.

You like sitting through all that crap, do you? You can easily remove it, and this will free up bits to improve the video quality of what you really want to watch, the movie.

ODog, I suspec the disc plays fine on your PC, right? I've read similar reports of people using panasonic players (is your player a panasonic?). This guy for example:

He too solved his problem by unchecking some of the options in the preferences...

MenuShrink a free tool to shrink menus into stills with or without audio!
DVDSubEdit: a free tool to modify your subtitles directly inside the vob.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

Yes, I am using a Panasonic player and Yes, unchecking "Remove protected cells" in Ripit4Me seems to have done the trick!
