    Avid Technology announced Friday the worldwide availability of Media Composer 2.7 and Xpress Pro 5.7, new versions of its digital video editing systems, now with native support for Intel-based Macs. Both new versions sport myriad other enhancements as well. Media Composer costs $4,995; upgrades start at $195. Xpress Pro costs $1,695; upgrades start at $49.95.

    AVID is very happy Mac went Intel. AVID offerings were all PC by 2003 with Mac OS support limited to Media Composer and that was just kept for minoity Mac OS nerds. Now Mac is on Intel, you might see Mac support added for Nitris and server products. They may even add Mac support for the Pinnacle stuff .

    The GUI difference is minor. Jobs was wise to move the company to Intel.
