Is there a freeware tool that can change the size of a AVI file? (Make it bigger so it fills up more of my television screen)

The player should scale it up. Shouldn't be any reason to physically upsize it.

You could re-encode it to a larger framesize, but the size on the screen is usually up to the TV, not the framesize. And the quality will suffer if you re-encode it.

    And welcome to our forums.

Are you using a stand alone player ?
Is the avi widescreen or 4:3 ?

There is a limit to how large you can make the video, and resizing the resolution up is not likely to fix your problem, just make the video look awful.

If the avi is not widescreen, the player is probably set to letterbox widescreen, and is putting the 4:3 image inside the letterbox area, then sending it to the TV with big black borders around it. Set the player to output as fullscreen, and the borders will be gone.
