  1. Everyone seems to say that CCE blows TMPGEnc away for MPEG-2 for SVCD -- is the same true for DVD?

I've done several high-motion tests of encoding DV AVI to DVD w/TMPGEnc 2.02 CQ (Constant Quality -- blows away TMPGEnc 2-pass VBR, IMHO) versus CCE 2.5 3-pass VBR, and TMPGEnc seems to always come out better, with slightly smaller file size. Any guesses as to what I am missing here?

For TMPGEnc I used CQ 85, max bitrate 8500, and for CCE I used 3-pass VBR with max bitrate 8500; both encoding to MPEG-2. CCE ended up only being a little faster than TMPGEnc when encoding (the three passes is what kills the speed), and the resulting file size for TMPGEnc was about 50MB/min, and CCE was slightly larger. The quality of the TMPGEnc output is consistently noticably better than that of CCE...

Any advice/pointers to what settings I could try in CCE to get the awesome output that everyone says it can do? I searched the forums and the 'net and everyone only seems to talk about xVCD (of course, this IS "vcdhelp.com"... ) I haven't played with the super-advanced settings in CCE, they are kind of scary (!!)

    Thanks!!

In my opinion stick to TMPGEnc. I tried CCE 2.5 and got to the same conclusion I think TMPGEnc is better, please someone correct me if I'm wrong. Or, yes, tell us how to get better results with CCE.

I tried both TMPGEnc 2.5 and CCE 2.64 to MPEG-2 DVD, both 2 pass VBR.
TMPGEnc makes better video quality and smaller file size.
    IMHO: stick to TMPGEnc.

  5. Definetly use CCE. I have always had blockiness with tmpeg! Check out www.robshot.com, and just follow the cce part. He walks you through how to get the lowest file size, without losing any quality. This way you don't have to guess!

  6. Ya know.....

For the $4000.00 that you paid to get the software...

you can always call up their tech support and ask them..since their tech support is basically their software engineers !!!

    RIGHT ?
