I use FitCD to solve an overscan problem. It all worked fine with .AVI files, but then the files switched to a format called Nero ShowTime Files. That's all it has for the file name. So, could somebody tell me what this file type is, and tell me how I can make it work in FitCD? Please?

You installed Nero and it took ownership of all your video files.

The good news is that the files themselves haven't changed, just the file association.

Try this first : Open Windows Explorer (right-click My Computer and select Explore). Click on Tools -> Folder Options. Click on the View tab, and under Advanced Settings, untick "Hide extensions of known file types". Click OK.

You will now be able to see the three characters after the . in the file name. Note that the avi files are still avi files.

OK, Thank you very much, guns1inger. That helped. They revealed themselves as .mp4's. So now All I have to do is convert them to .avi files, and they should work in FitCD?

All FitCD does is create an avisynth script. It doesn't do any sort of conversion. If FitCD doesn't open the file, open it in VLC and get the resolution, and type this by hand into FitCD to get a script.

Ok, but I can't even see them as a source in FitCD. When I go to browse for a source, it's the right folder and everything, but the file is just not there at all.

They were suggesting that you enter the values manually. Even if you were to type *.mp4 and open the mp4, FitCD presumably wouldn't be able to detect the resolution. So use fitCD to calculate the values, then create a script with directshowsource() to open the mp4.

Ok, This FitCD thing is getting more and more confusing. Is there an easier way that I can add black bars around the edges to combat overscan, instead of using FitCD?

  10. Yeah, you can use a common calculator. But you must know what to calculate...

And be able to create your avisynth files by hand.

What is so confusing about entering two numbers and saving the file ?

Open FitCD. In the bottom half is the mpeg Resizing section. There is a button marked source, which is what you would normally use to load the source video. In your case, you are saying FitCD will not load it.

Next to this button are two fields for your resolution, and a drop down list for the aspect ratio. Put in your Width and Height, and set the AR. For most downloaded avi/mkv assorted crap it will be 1:1 Monitor.

    Yes, that's been done.
EDIT: For some reason it could be worth mentioning that after I have the script, I put the script into TMPGEnc, to get a video file to burn it to dvd using Nero 7. Might help. Might not.

Tmpgenc produces the mpeg-2 video that is required for DVD authoring. If you then put this into Nero to author, you are more than likely undoing any good work that tmpgenc has done because Nero will re-encode. Nero should not be used for anything to do with DVD Video.
