  2. It depends on what type of video file it is. For AVI you can use Virtualdub. For MPEG, Virtualdubmod, DVD2AVI or DGMPGDec should do it. Either way you will have to re-encode the file...

    iMovie ? Seriously, we have a list of Mac tools here : https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=15#15

    I use AVIDemux a bit. It seems stable and is great for joining parts with different audio settings. You can crop with it by choosing a codec, then adding a Crop filter. There is a Mac version of this free tool.

    You may also be able to crop with mpeg streamclip as well.

    Have a browse through the list and see if anything else suits.
