  1. When I use TMPGEnc to cut a file, it creates blocks. So is it a good idea to cut the original avi file in half with virtual dub, then converting both of the files with TMPGEnc to VCD format. Or should I just convert first, then cut with TMPGEnc since Virtual Dub doesn't cut MPEG files. TMPGenc creates blocks some times and freezes the movie sometimes too. Any suggestions?

i'd leave the source alone. if you wanna convert half at a time, load the avi and use the source range filter TMPGEnc to select the first half, save the project, then the second half, save the project, then batch encode by loading both projects and clicking run...

  3. I find it hard to beleive that you would get blocks from cutting with TMPGEnc.

I ran a test on this once. I took a 25 min clip that had been ripped and encoded to a standard compliant VCD from a DVD. I cut 1min off at a time using TMPGEnc until I was down to 1min.

So, my once 25min clip had been reduced to a 1min scene which had been though the TMPGEnc cutter 25 times and there was no noticeable difference when played on my standalone DVD player. As far as my PC, I wouldn't know if there was any loss because it decodes mpeg like shit, DVD isn't even impressive on my PC.

  5. I'm using Beta 12f but when I did the test I think I was using 12d. I been cutting with TMPGEnc with all versions but I have never noticed a loss in quality.
