I tried using Microsoft Video Maker, but is there a better utility to capture the video through.
I don't have a firewire port on my computer to do direct capture with say WinDV...
Must I really buy a firewire card to get a decent transfer of video and sound?
I tried searching but all I got was info on capturing with an AIW card and I don't have the ATI MMC software and the MMC software that you can download is not compatible with my card.
What would you suggest?

Your card is an AIW but without the TV tuner so MMC intended for the X850 based AIW should work with yours.
But, if you intend transferring from a DV source, buy yourself a Firewire card. The quality you will get with a direct digital copy from camcorder tape to hard drive is going to be far better than doing a software conversion from analogue to digital and back to analogue again.
