  1. Dear Forum
I was trying to create a dvd using the above software, and using some files I had recorded from tv (dvb) and joined together using videoredo

When processing the file the software threw up the following message:
" your file has some open GOPs" and this might affect the final result.

Please do anyone know what GOP's are and whether I need to "close " them and if so how to do it.

Your kind help in this would be appreciated

    Ian

GOPs - Group Of Pictures. It is to do with the way mpeg compression works. Leaving GOPs open when encoding can give you slightly better compression. Open GOPS are perfectly legal in video encoded for DVD.

DLP gives you a warning regarding open GOPS because it can affect the accuracy of chapter placement. However it is just a warning. If you are using DLP 1.6 or 2.x you can turn this warning off.

Of you can look at your VideoRedo settings to make sure that it always uses closed GOPs when it does any re-encoding. I would suggest that it has done some minor re-encoding at the join points, an left the GOPs open.

Me - I encode with open GOPs all the time, and author in DLP. I just turn the warning off.
