    Please help a noob!

-- How do i burn 4 DivX files with separate subtitles as DVD (data) and keep them as DivX ? --

    1. Should i create 4 folders for each movie and put the DivX files and the subtitles inside ?
    2. Or i just drag 'n' drop everything inside the DVD but my DivX player (a Thomson) will pick automatically the subtitles for each movie ?
    3. How much will take to burn 4 DivX movies (700mb each) as data DVD at 16x ? Will fit on one DVD ?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. No folders - keep it simple.
    2. Everything in the root of the disc. Make sure your subtitle files have the same name as the movie files. e.g. movie123.avi + movie123.srt
    3. A blank DVD5 holds 4.38 GB of data. You have 4 movies of around 700MB each, plus subs (maybe another 100 - 120 MB). You do the math, but yes, it will fit. You should get around 6 movies of this size to a disc.

    Questions you didn't ask

    1. Can I burn more movies to the disc to use the available space later ? No. Most players do not read multi-session discs

    2. Can I burn this with NeroVision ? No. NeroVision will re-encode your movies and make look like crap

    3. What's the best software to burn them with ? Imgburn 2 in Build Mode.

I burned the files using Prassi Ones (v.2.1.358) using the ''Wizard'' mode as Data CD/DVD because IMGburn just keep crashing on my XP or is very slow on start, but even Prassi Ones made me feel dumb because renamed automatically all the 6 movies into THE6000....THE7000....etc...so now i can't see the subtitles on my stand alone DVD/DIVX player. Why did it happened, any idea what i did wrong? Oh, btw i have a PHILIPS SOLIDBURN DVD±RW Dual Layer (PBDDV1660G) . Thanks.

I never use the wizard in anything that has a manual option - I'm just paranoid that way. Prassi has never renamed files when I burn data discs. Ditch the wizard, do it by hand.

I don't know what is wrong with imgburn, but it would be worth uninstalling and install the latest version to get it working.

one important qiestion you didnt ask:
will dvd/divx players show the subtitle the same way in each one?

No, if subtitles are important to you, create a divx file with xsubs using sub2divx, now all your subs will look the same and get properly displayed in a divx SAP player unlike the srt subtitle format that gets different treatment with different players.

I know sounds strange but is my stand alone DIVX player that shows the files inside the DVD renamed. I just tried the DVD i burned on my pc and all the file names are correct, Prassi Ones didn't renamed anything, oh well looks like i need a new DIVX/DVD player.

    Can you explain it better?

    what i usually do is:

creat a divx file by muxing the subs and avi with sub2divx, it only takes 3 minutes, in the end youll have a .divx file with subs that can be played in any divx sap player.

    to burn:

open the divx player(software) that comes with the divx 6.5 bundle and drag/drop the 4 files to the divx player, it then will tell how much space it will ocuppy, press burn, thats all. 100% sucess rate using this method

some avi´s available from the net do not meet the divx SAP video standart, they wont play on your sap but will play on your pc.

if youre converting from a dvdsource use avi.Net or Autogk
I love it when a plan comes together!

Ok, i try to explain better, I want to burn those as DATA DVD so i can keep them DIVX, so i run Prassi One and burn everyhting as DATA DVD:

    - The Best Movie CD1 & The Best Movie CD1.srt
    - The Best Movie CD2 & The Best Movie CD2.srt
    - The Best Movie CD3 & The Best Movie CD3.srt
    - The Best Movie CD4 & The Best Movie CD4.srt

After the burn process is done i put the DVD in my stand alone DVD/DIVX player but the files looks like this on the TV screen:

    - THEB0001
    - THEB0002
    - THEB0003
    - THEB0004

So no subtitles and the movies appear to be renamed on my TV screen.

I tried to see the same DVD on my pc and when i open the DVD, the files looks ok together with the subtitles:

    - The Best Movie CD1 & The Best Movie CD1.srt
    - The Best Movie CD2 & The Best Movie CD2.srt
    - The Best Movie CD3 & The Best Movie CD3.srt
    - The Best Movie CD4 & The Best Movie CD4.srt

This happenings only when i burn more files in a DVD, i tried to burn only one movie from above in one CD and my stand alone player shows the file correctly:

    - The Best Movie CD1 & The Best Movie CD1.srt

I start to think that my DIVX player doesn't like ''burned'' DVD's because i have a large DIVX CD colection and everything is ok. Even if i try to burn only one divx file on a DVD the divx player show the file renamed to something else ex. FB0001 etc....

Your player cannot recognise file names that don't conform to the old 8.3 namespace, and so renames them internally.

When you burn to DVD, make sure you use both UDF and ISO9660 file systems.

Finally! Thanks! I just tried again Imgburn (clean install) and it worked. One more question about Prassi Ones, which mode should i use:

    1. ISO9660 + UDF (up to 254 chars.)
    2. ISO9660 + UDF with Fast Disc (and what is Fast Disc ???)

I would choose the first option. I don't know what the fast disc option does.

It would be more polite to create your own post to ask this, after you have done some searching. You might also consider putting in some detail about what you want to achieve - a DVD, playable avi files ?
